Tribute to Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz's photos are breathtaking! She manages to capture people outside their comfort zone and even ugly is pretty on her photos. Annie started out as a photographer at the Rolling Stones magazine where she toured with the band called The Rolling Stones, she has some amaizing snaps from that era. Moving on to Vanity Fair she was asked to do different kinds of photos, for example Donald Trump pictured together with over posing Ivana Trump, even then she managed to get her own quirk to it. Nowadays Annie is more known as a fashion photographer and taking snaps of celebrities but I'd like to point out that has also been a war photographer in Sarajevo in 93.

Annie Leibovitzi fotod on tõeliselt imelised! Annie on praegusel ajal rohkem tuntud kui kuulsuste ja moefotograafina kuid tegelikult on tema ampluaa tunduvalt mitmekülgsem. Lisaks fotodele muusikutest, näitlejatest on ta käinud ka sõjatsoonis pildistamas. Sarajevo ajast on kige meeldejäävam teos olnud "Bloody Bicycle" nimeline foto, google aitab foto ja selle loo leidmisel. Viimaselt fotolt vaatab vastu fotograaf Annie Leibovitz isiklikult.

Upstairs Downstairs Second Season launched

Yes, after more than one year of waiting Upstairs Downstairs Series Two was launched last Sunday! The  second series starts in 1938 and the opening episode set the tone perfectly, the shadow of World War II is moving closer and closer. The prospect of war really sets the drama in this first episode, Lady Agnes has just given birth to a second child and the concern over  Sir Hallam's career is what concerns most of the Upstairs Downstairs crowd. The series has been in comparison with ITV's Downton Abbey, I would say it is a more urban version of Downton. For those who could not wait until next episodes of Downton Abbey, Upstairs Downstairs gives another peek to the lives of brits.

Downstairs "crowd", First Season

Upstairs Downstairs sai jälle avapaugu sellel pühapäeval! Seriaal, mille esimesed osad olid eetris 2010 aasta jõulude paiku sai lisaks veel teise seasoni, toimumispaigaks aasta 1938 ja London. Upstairs Downstairsi on tihti võrreldud ITV Downton Abbey'ga, kindlasti leiab sarnaseid jooni palju kuid üheks silmapaistvamaks erinevuseks on see, et tegevus toimub suurlinnas samal ajal kui Downton jäi linnasaginast kõrvale. Jääme ootama juba järgmisi pühapäevi!

Inspiration from 40s and 50s - Lena Hoschek

Lena Hoschek's 40s and 50s inspired clothes are made for all the Sophia Lorens and Marilyns of today. Nolita is not a big fan of new vintage or so to say remade vintage but these clothes really caught our eye!  Lena Hoschek is an Austrian designer and she has been a regular at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin. Her look is distinctive and clearly far from the fast-changing trends, so let the clothes do the talking!

Kui tunned sidet Sophia Loreni ja Marilyn Monroega siis on just Lena Hoscheki riided sulle mõeldud!  See Austriast pärit disainer on olnud Vivienne Westwoodi assistent enne kui otsustas enda brandi kasuks aastal 2006. Lena riided on inspiratsiooni saanud 40ndatest ja 50ndatest ja ta on regulaarne külaline Berliinis toimuval Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weekil. Tavaliselt on Nolita arvamus, et nö uus vintage pole ikka päris SEE, siis nende riiete puhul seda tunnet kindlasti ei teki. 

Tribute to Dita von Teese

This raven haired beauty is Nolita's favorite of all times, true fashion and vintage icon! Von Teese is an American burlesque dancer, model and actress and is often noted as "the Queen of Burlesque". Von Teese is credited for bringing back the glamour and sophistication of Old Hollywood stars and her performances are called a journey into fantasy and spectacle.  Dita is a collector of vintage china, particularly eggcups and tea sets and also she loves to drive cars from the 30s, 40s and 60s. Von Teese has said about herself: "I advocate glamour. Every day. Every minute."  Could not agree more!

Dita Von Teese'ist õhkuvat 40ndate glamuuri on raske mitte märgata ning just teda peetakse Vana Hollywoodi sära tagasi toojaks. Von Teese'i tegemiste ampluaa on äärmiselt lai: ta on diplomeeritud moedisainer, raamatute autor, näitlejanna ja loomulikult ei saa siit nimekirjast välja jätta burleski. Enda kohta on Dita öelnud: "Ma jumaldan glamuuri. Iga päev ja iga minut!" 

Mildred Pierce

If you haven't seen HBO's miniseries Mildred Pierce then it is high time to watch it! Kate Winslet plays a self-sacrificing mother of two daughters, struggling to make ends meet she decided to open a restaurant which offers Chicken & Waffle dinners (what an odd combination it seems nowadays!). Mildred's narcissistic daughter is played by oh so gorgeous Evan Rachel Wood. The outcome of the plot is pretty unexpected and the tensions between mother and daughter really heat up in the two last episodes, so better take a look yourself... Winslet and Wood both make a really superb role in the mini-series, which is the  adaptation of the 1941 novel "Mildred Pierce". Mildred Pierce was also made into a film in 1945 starring Joan Crawford.

Kes pole veel jõudnud vaadata Mildred Pierce'i nimelist sarja, soovitame soojalt pilk peale heita. Viie osalise miniseriaali tegevus toimub 1930 Ameerikas, kus kahe tütre ema Mildred on pärast lahutust keerulises olukorras. Kuna Mildred on suurepärane kokk ja kondiiter siis ongi loogiliseks lahenduseks avada oma söögikohta, mis ostutub väga menukaks. Mildredi elu muudab keeruliseks tema vanem enesekeskne tütar keda mängib imeilus Evan Rachel Wood. Viimases kahes osas muutuvad ema-tütre suhted ülimalt keerukaks ning lõpplahenduski on päris üllatav! Mainimist väärt on see, et Winslet ja Wood teevad väga head rollid. Mildred Pierce miniseriaal on adapteering 1941 aasta samanimelisest raamatust ning sellest on vändatud film 1945 aastal.

Head uut aastat kõigile! Ilmselt pole kellelegi uudiseks, et Pärnus õitsevad roosid kuid öösiti võib olla ka krõbedat külma (jah, ka -2 tundub hetkel äärmiselt külm). Jaanuari tujukus paneb vahepeal lausa kukalt kratsima, kuid leidub ka abimehi külma ja niiske ilma vastu -  see 70ndate käsitööna valminud vasika ja sooblinahast mantel-kasukas on tõeline abimees!
